Say aloha to Oahu! This little man has been described as “playful and spunky,” and “a character,” by the people who know him best—and we can attest to those statements! When we first met Oahu, it was clear that he was not at all used to life with humans, constantly hiding in or behind his litter box with a terrified expression on his face. With love and patience from ASPCA staff and a foster caregiver, Oahu has blossomed. He’s still a shy kitty and may always be—especially with guests—but he has definitely realized that humans bring good things. Once he feels comfortable, Oahu isn’t shy about letting his playful side shine! The way to this guy’s heart is through games, and he particularly enjoys jumping after and batting at wand toys. We can promise that you’ll be amazed by his acrobatics! Chasing after tossed treats is also high up on Oahu’s list of favorite games to play.

When it comes to getting pets, Oahu is still learning just how great they can be. He’s learned to enjoy getting a few gentle scratches on his own terms and politely pushes his foster caregiver’s hand away when he’s had enough. Oahu is also reported to be figuring out that sleeping in bed with his foster caregiver is pretty great—so, if you’ve got a cozy mattress and some soft blankets Oahu may be your man!

Oahu is looking for an adopter who understands that it may take him a while to adjust to his new home, but that it’s worth the wait! We think that a home with teens and up would be the best bet for Oahu. He loves other cats, so if you have another kitty count him in!
