Country Music Legend Tanya Tucker Supports Horse Adoption
Country music legend Tanya Tucker loves animals—she proudly shares her home with dogs and horses. She’s also a huge fan of adoption. In honor of Adopt a Horse Month, we caught up with Tanya to talk about how horses have impacted her life and why adoption is a great option.
Tanya got her first horse when she was just five years old. As a kid, caring for horses gave her a sense of obligation and responsibility. Plus, she loved the freedom horses gave her. “There’s nothing like riding off into the pasture with some friends and having a great time,” she told us.
As an adult, Tanya has continued to love and care for horses. She has used her voice to advocate for many horse-related issues, including adoption. Tanya stressed, “I believe it’s important to adopt horses if you are able. It is a wonderful opportunity to give a horse a wonderful home.”
Tanya doesn’t just talk about horse adoption, she embraces it. Recently she adopted a colt and his mom from a horse rescue in Jackson, Tennessee. “It’s such a wonderful thing to be able to save an animal by adopting,” she said. For anyone considering adopting a horse, Tanya’s advice: “I say go for it!”

Adoption Spotlight: Delta Dawn
Tanya Tucker’s debut studio album, Delta Dawn, featured a song by the same name that reached the Top 10. So, as Tanya raises her voice to promote equine adoption, it seems fitting that we introduce you to an aptly named equine who is available for adoption.
Delta Dawn was recently transported on our ASPCA Horse Adoption Express to the SPCA of Texas to find a wonderful home. Much like her namesake, Delta Dawn has a big personality and is in search of someone who will love her. She is currently being ridden daily and is well-suited for an adopter with an intermediate level of riding experience.
If you’re ready to follow Tanya’s advice and “go for it,” learn more about Delta Dawn or browse hundreds of adoptable horses nationwide on My Right Horse.
