We’re all about Austin! This handsome man has come so far since we first met him, and we are all incredibly proud of his progress. Thanks to the help of a wonderful foster caregiver, Austin has transitioned from a cat who’s really scared of people, into one who’s starting to learn that they can actually be pretty okay!
Austin is still a shy dude—and likely always will be—but under his nerves is a cat who, according to his foster, “is really sweet once he decides he is safe, and it takes a lot of willpower to not scoop him up and cuddle him.” When given time and patience to settle into his foster home—and, with a confidence boost from his feline foster brother—Austin slowly started to emerge from his comfy hiding spots and explore. He still loves those cozy nooks, but he’s started finding enjoyment in other things, too—particularly playtime! Games were, “out of the question,” when Austin first got home, but he couldn’t hide his love of wand and feather toys for long. Pull them out now, and Austin is sure to be a happy kitty! When it comes to being loved and doted on, Austin still isn’t super sure. He’s learned that a couple gentle pets aren’t too bad if he’s getting treats at the same time—so, his new family should be understanding that being scratched all the time currently isn’t his thing. But, with patience and work from his new family, Austin could definitely learn to enjoy them more!
Austin would be a great fit for an adopter who has experience with shy kitties like him and is excited to continue working with him! Because small kids may be too much for this handsome man, a home with teens and up would be great. And, because he’s his best self around other cats, his new home must have a social, confident cat-friendly kitty who can show him the ropes.
