Huron

The ASPCA staff who work with Huron everyday say it best when they say that he’s “a sweet, lovable guy!” They could go on all day about how great this pup is, describing Huron as “a big mush who loves spending time with people.” Huron would love a home outside of New York City with an adopter who can help him learn a few more manners. Could that be you?

Big fan of: People! Whether he knows you well or has never met you, Huron is sure to consider you a friend. There’s nothing that Huron enjoys more than quality time with his buddies, and it tends to take many forms. Sometimes it looks like playtime, where Huron excitedly gets his mouth on and messes around with balls, ropes and squeaky toys. He especially enjoys games of fetch! Huron may start to get tired, but that doesn’t mean he needs his alone time. When he’s ready to stop playing, Huron comes over to his humans and leans into them for scratches and snuggles. Huron has also enjoyed training time with his favorite staff members, too! He’s super smart too and knows “sit” and “touch”—but he particularly loves showing off how good he is at “paw.”

Working on: Reigning in his excitement! Whether he sees another dog or a human, Huron gets so excited that he often has trouble containing himself. With people, he tends to forget to keep all four paws on the ground and jumps up. Huron does well with calm dogs off-leash, but when he sees them while out on walks he tends to lunge excitedly. This can be managed with yummy treats and walking routes where he’s less likely to see other pups but it may get more intense if not addressed in the home. A little training with a certified professional would go a long way with Huron!

Dream home: Because there are so many dogs on the streets of New York City, Huron needs a home outside of the city or in a more suburban area—preferably one in a low-traffic place with a fenced-in backyard where he can play to his heart’s content! It would be best if Huron’s adopter has some experience with a dog like him and can provide appropriate outlets for his physical and mental energy.
