Duck is looking for his goose! This pup is truly docile and gentle—and, as a recent transplant from the south, now aware of the fact that city living is not for him. Duck’s pretty overwhelmed here in the Big Apple, but we know he has tons of love hiding under his shy exterior—he just needs the right type of home to help bring it out.
Big fan of: The quiet things in life! Duck came to us from rural Alabama, and his country roots and affinity for simplicity are apparent in his temperament. Every time you walk by Duck’s kennel, you can bet that he’s cuddled up on his bed, surrounded by lots of comfy blankets, watching the world go by. Duck is a very shy boy who, in turn, gets pretty nervous around humans. But with time, patience and lots of yummy treats you can start to earn Duck’s trust. Once he gets to know you, Duck enjoys receiving the gentle love and affection he so deserves--preferable in small, non-overwhelming doses.
Working on: Growing into a fearless adult! Because the crazy sights and loud sounds of NYC are so scary for him, Duck has much preferred to stay inside rather than going outdoors for walks, especially considering that even being around humans or just being on a leash is scary for him, too. Having another dog nearby gives Duck a confidence boost and has helped him during his time at the ASPCA, but he needs a special home and continued training to really help him truly blossom.
Dream home: Duck needs an adopter who has experience with shy dogs like him, is willing to give him some confidence training and lives in a quiet, low-traffic neighborhood—preferable in the outer boroughs or suburbs. Other dogs have a huge impact on Duck’s confidence, so his new home must already have a confident and social adult dog living there who can show him the ropes. Young kids are too much for this sensitive boy, so he would like to live with teens and up. Think Duck may be a good match for you? Come meet him today!
