Oodles of Rescued Poodles from Queens En Route to ASPCA

What:

The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) is transferring approximately 25 poodles from a home in Queens to its Manhattan headquarters.
 

When:

Today. Thursday, October 23, 2008
 

Where:

The dogs will arrive at the ASPCA Adoption Center in Manhattan at 424 E. 92nd Street, between first and York.
 

Time:

Approximate arrival time at the ASPCA is 1:00 p.m.
 

Details:

The 25 dogs, which range in age from 2 months to 6 years, while relatively healthy, are not well socialized to strangers and new environments.

“They have never been walked outside, so we will move slowly and carefully,” said Arthur Hazlewood, the ASPCA’s Director of the ASPCA Adoption Center in Manhattan. “The dogs will be groomed, treated for any medical issues and worked with behaviorally before they go up for adoption.”

The ASPCA hopes to be able to take all but one of the dogs, who will be spayed and remain with the owner.

“We were fortunate to be able to accommodate such an influx,” said Gail Buchwald, the ASPCA’s Senior Vice President. “The longer an agency waits to act, the more animals there will be and the worse their condition. Getting them to a shelter as soon as possible gives them the best chance for placement in a new home. Also, the best chance for the animals is when there are fewer, and in better shape. In this case, the ASPCA was able to stop the population from exploding further.”
