ASPCA Grants $4,000 to Horse-Angels Ranch

NEW YORK—The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) today announced a grant of $4,000 to the Horse-Angels Ranch in Spencer, Indiana. The grant funding will be used by the group to provide feed for their rescued horses. The ranch receives horses seized by local animal control, horses needing more intensive veterinary care or training than area humane societies can provide; stray horses, and sick horses from individuals that cannot afford vet expenses.

“Many equine rescues and humane societies that care for horses have been hit hard by the economy and are struggling to keep up with rising hay prices,” said Julie Morris, ASPCA Senior Vice President of Community Outreach. “The ASPCA Equine Fund and Emergency Hay Support grant programs allow the Horse-Angels Ranch and others involved in equine rescue to continue their invaluable support in sheltering homeless equines and providing an alternative to neglect or abandonment.”

The ASPCA Equine Fund is devoted to promoting humane care and respect for horses, and provides grants to non-profit equine welfare organizations in the United States. The ASPCA Emergency Hay Support grant program provides feed for rescue groups and humane organizations. Over the last two years, the ASPCA has awarded over one million dollars in grants to equine groups across the country.

In 2009, the ASPCA provided grant funding to several other groups in Indiana including: Ouabache Valley Felines & Friends, Terre Haute (for a feral cat spay / neuter program) and the Green County Humane Society, Linton (for pre-adoption services for pets).
