ASPCA Announces Arrest of Bronx Man for Severe Neglect of St. Bernard
Emaciated Dog Treated at ASPCA’s Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital; Weight Increases by 45 Percent in Just One Month
NEW YORK, December 4, 2008 - Humane Law Enforcement agents of the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) arrested Cedric Flemming of the Bronx on November 20 for neglecting his seven-year-old dog, a female St. Bernard mix.
ASPCA Special Agent John DeLaTorre responded to a complaint at 1410 grand Concourse on October 3 and discovered an emaciated St. Bernard mix. The dog, named Precious, was seized and taken to the ASPCA’s Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital where she was treated for starvation and neglect. After one month, her weight of just 65 pounds increased by 45 percent, to 94 pounds.
Flemming, 28, was charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. He faces up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Precious was released to the ASPCA and will be soon be available for adoption.
