ASPCA® Arrests Queens Woman for Starving Dog

NEW YORK--Humane Law Enforcement agents of the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) arrested Queens resident Victoria Tela today for starving her one-year-old female pit bull.

On October 10, ASPCA Special Agent Joann Sandano received a complaint of an underweight dog with no food or water. Agent Sandano visited Tela's residence and found a pit bull tied to a radiator. The dog was emaciated and exhibited obvious signs of neglect such as overgrown nails and clearly visible bones under the skin. Furthermore, Tela did not have any dog food in her home.

The dog, named Fendi, was signed over to the ASPCA and immediately taken to the ASPCA Animal Hospital, where she was treated for starvation and neglect. Fendi weighed 18.5 pounds when she was examined by veterinarians; she has gained nearly 12 pounds at the hospital.

Tela, 43, was charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. If convicted, she faces up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
