ASPCA Offers $1,000 Reward for Information Leading to Arrest in Jessamine County Puppy Starvation Case

NEW YORK—The ASPCA^® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals^®) today announced that it will offer a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case of a six-month-old, severely emaciated puppy abandoned near the dumpsters of an apartment building on Beauford Place in Nicholasville, Ky.   

A Good Samaritan brought the extremely thin, white puppy to the Jessamine County Animal Shelter on July 29. She was immediately evaluated by a veterinarian who estimated the puppy should weigh between 21 and 24 pounds but weighed around half that when rescued. She does not have any other health issues and has slowly gained weight over the last week and a half.

“This is a truly heartbreaking case of animal cruelty,” said Stacy Wolf, senior vice president of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “No animal should have to suffer in this way. We thank Jessamine County Animal Care and Control staff for their commitment to finding justice for this puppy while sending a message that this type of cruelty will not be tolerated in their community.” 

“This is one of the most emaciated dogs our staff has seen in a very long time,” said Mike Cassidy, Director of Jessamine County Public Services “It’s clear by the markings on her neck that she wore a collar at one time and may have been someone’s pet. We hope this reward from the ASPCA will help us uncover the circumstances that led to the puppy’s condition and hold the appropriate people responsible.”
