The ASPCA’s Response to the USDA Regarding the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center
Responding to a New York Times investigation on animal welfare atrocities at the Department of Agriculture's U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC), the USDA wrote in a statement, “The welfare and well-being of animals is a priority at USDA, and we have worked hard to continuously improve practices in this area…We will look into the most recent reports about activities at USMARC and identify ways we can further improve our animal research.”

Take action by contacting Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to ask him to stop using tax dollars to fund needlessly cruel animal experimentation.

The ASPCA is disappointed that USDA has chosen to gloss over the deeply disturbing reports of animal cruelty at the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center. If it truly considers the ‘welfare and well-being of animals’ a priority, the USDA should work to eradicate animal cruelty, not perpetuate it. The ASPCA will continue to push the Administration and Congress to address this issue in a meaningful way.
