The ASPCA has been on the ground in Griffin, Georgia, since early February assisting Spalding County Animal Care and Control with a  temporary shelter operation for unowned and displaced pets impacted by the tornadoes that struck the community last month. While in Griffin, our Disaster Response experts have been providing daily care and behavioral enrichment for the shelter animals as well as animals displaced by the storms. 

During this time, shelters have been full, and Spalding County’s need for loving adopters has risen greatly. We encourage anyone in the area looking to help to visit the Spalding County Animal Shelter website and consider opening your heart and home to an animal in need. In addition to providing support on the ground, we have been assisting in the reunification of displaced pets as well as relocating unowned animals outside of the impacted communities to free up space in the local shelters. On Saturday, we will be transporting 28 dogs to the ASPCA Cruelty Recovery Center in Ohio, where they will continue to receive ongoing medical care and behavioral support until they are ready for adoption.
