The ASPCA commends Indiana lawmakers for unanimously passing H.B. 1201, a critical bill that will require shelters to spay/neuter dogs and cats prior to adoption. This comprehensive statewide spay/neuter law will dramatically decrease pet homelessness numbers and euthanasia rates at Indiana shelters. H.B. 1201 now heads to Gov. Mike Pence for his approval.

At the request of the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office, the ASPCA is assisting with evidence collection and managing the removal and sheltering of 47 dogs, four cats and a horse living in an overcrowded home in Bell, Fla. The investigation was initiated by the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office when a concerned citizen reported a dead horse in the front yard of the residence as well as several dogs who appeared to be neglected.

The ASPCA today announced that the more than 50 dogs seized from a puppy mill in Mio, Mich. are now available for adoption at the Roscommon County Animal Shelter. The dogs were rescued by the ASPCA and Oscoda County Sheriff’s Department last December following complaints of abuse and neglect at the facility.

At the request of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office, the ASPCA® (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) is assisting with the seizure and care of nearly 600 animals from The Haven, a 122-acre unlicensed, self-described animal rescue in Raeford, N.C. The owners of the facility were arrested on charges of animal cruelty after a search warrant was served Wednesday morning.

The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) and Animal Assistance Foundation have joined forces to provide a grant totaling $30,000 to Pets Forever. The funds will support Pets Forever’s efforts to provide low-income elderly and disabled Larimer County residents with supplies, services and resources that will help them maintain ownership of their pets.
