ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance Celebrates 10 Million Cats and Dogs Sterilized Nationwide Through Clinic Mentorship Program
Nearly 200 partner clinics across the country have been trained in high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter practices at ASPCA facilityNEW YORK – This February, in recognition of National Spay/Neuter Awareness Month, the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) Spay/Neuter Alliance (ASNA) is celebrating a significant milestone as it reaches 10 million accumulative spay/neuter surgeries through its National Spay/Neuter Response Team (NSNRT) mentorship program. The program, which was launched in 2004, has trained 180 clinics from 39 states at ASNA’s facility in Asheville, N.C. Through the program, animal welfare professionals learn to open, run, and sustain high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter clinics across the country.
“The ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance is in awe of the dedicated National Spay/Neuter Response Team partners who have prioritized access to affordable spay/neuter surgeries in their communities to save at-risk animals and dramatically reduce the number of homeless pets entering shelters nationwide,” said ASNA Vice President Eleanor Sprinkle. “Our partner clinics sterilize more than one million cats and dogs annually, and that number is only growing. We celebrate with them as they each played a significant role in reaching this milestone, and we look forward to continuing to work together as we tackle pet overpopulation across the country.”
ASNA is a nationally recognized leader in high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter and operates two training facilities on its Asheville campus, with training programs available for veterinary students, licensed veterinarians, and medical teams that work in mid- to high-volume spay/neuter environments. In addition, ASNA supports the Western North Carolina community directly by sterilizing more than 25,000 animals – including owned pets and shelter cats and dogs – at its facility annually.
The ASPCA recognizes that spay/neuter is currently among the best methods to combat animal homelessness and reduce shelter intake and euthanasia of cats and dogs. To learn more about the benefits of spaying or neutering pets, click here.
