ASPCA Launches Borough-wide "Fixin' to Win" Sweepstakes

NEW YORK—The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) today launched ”Fixin’ to Win,“ a month-long sweepstakes with giveaways and raffle prizes for pet owners who spay or neuter their pets at ASPCA Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic locations. Every New York City resident who has his or her cat or dog spayed or neutered at an ASPCA Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic location from now until December 22, 2010 is a potential winner.

All pet owners who participate in “Fixin’ to Win” will receive an ASPCA gift and the opportunity to win:

• An autographed copy of Magic Johnson’s book, "32 Ways to be a Champion in Business."
• An autographed basketball by the WNBA’s Candice Wiggins.
• An autographed copy of Universal Motown artist Gin Wigmore’s CD, “Holy Smoke”
• Two movie tickets to an AMC theater

In addition to these prizes, each week the ASPCA will hold a drawing in each of the five boroughs and will award a qualified adopter with a free dog adoption at Animal Care & Control of New York City, and―for the new addition to the family―a $500 voucher for free services at the veterinary clinic of the winner’s choice. During the final week of the sweepstakes, one lucky pet owner will be selected as the winner of a Dyson Animal Vacuum Cleaner.

The clinics will visit locations throughout the city seven days a week, offering free or low-cost spay/neuter surgeries to New York City cats and dogs. Pet owners will also have the opportunity to update their pet’s rabies and distemper vaccinations, and they can have their pet micro-chipped for an additional $25.

“’Fixin’ to Win’ is the ASPCA’s way of giving back to New York City’s responsible pet owners and helping them enjoy the holiday season, while providing their pet with health and behavior benefits that last a lifetime,” says Kim Harris, Manager of Special Events and Outreach for the ASPCA Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinics. “Many pet owners don’t know that spaying and neutering their pet can prevent certain types of cancer and can reduce nuisance behaviors, such as spraying and roaming.”

An ASPCA representative will be on hand to assist those interested in having their pet spayed or neutered. Pet owners should arrive before 8 a.m. Service is first-come, first-served until the clinic is full. Each mobile clinic has the capacity to spay or neuter approximately 25 animals per day.

Approximately 40,000 homeless pets enter New York City shelters each year; spaying and neutering has a direct impact on reducing this number. Therefore, every New Yorker who spays or neuters his or her pet is helping to reduce the city’s homeless pet population. In 2009, the ASPCA spayed or neutered more than 31,000 cats and dogs on its mobile spay/neuter clinics.
