Foster One, Help Many.
That’s The Rescue Effect.
Shelters and rescues are full. Lend a paw by fostering an animal for your local shelter or rescue group. By fostering, you give animals a break from the shelter, a comfortable place to recover from illness or injury, exposure to new people, lots of love, and you increase their chances of adoption.
Use our Shelter Finder tool to see which local shelters and rescues participated in The Rescue Effect. If your local organizations do not appear on the map, please contact them anyway!
Your Donation Transforms Lives.
That’s The Rescue Effect.
For 160 years, the ASPCA has worked to end animal abuse and neglect, and we are a national leader in animal rescue, protection and placement. The ASPCA builds bridges between animal welfare organizations from coast to coast, supporting ambitious local programs with grant funding, running America’s largest adoptable-animal transport network, training tomorrow’s shelter vets and so much more.
Your gift to the ASPCA can help animals find loving homes, provide rescued animals with care and meals, and ensure that our lifesaving work continues. Together, we can give more animals the second chance they deserve.
Prefer to donate to your local shelter or rescue group? That’s great! We encourage local giving. Our Shelter Finder tool can help you discover organizations near you.

Though the campaign ended on October 31, you can keep The Rescue Effect alive by adopting a pet from your local animal shelter or rescue group. Your pet’s adoption will free up space and resources for other homeless animals. It’s a ripple: When you help one, you help many.

“Pet adoption and rescue have been important to me since I was a little kid. I want people to know there are amazing animals in shelters who match all the things they say they’re looking for, whether it be breed, size or age. These animals do exist in shelters — just go look.”

“Each pet who comes through our doors has a story — it’s our job to make sure it’s one marked by safety, health and affection. Thanks to partners like the ASPCA and Minneapolis community, we can continue helping every animal who needs us.”
Tony Schendel
Director, Minneapolis Animal Care and Control

“I felt like she was meant for me,” about Rocky, an 11-year-old cat adopted from the ASPCA after her previous cat, O’Reily, also from the ASPCA, passed away at 14. "O’Reily was — and Rocky is — such a sweetheart. That really says something about the ASPCA. I’ve been blessed with sweeties.”
