Privacy Policy

"This Shelter Database Privacy Policy applies to all data that are submitted to the American Society for the Prevention of Animals (ASPCA) through the Shelter Database interface.  By submitting information to the Shelter Database, you agree, to the extent the terms described below conflict with the Privacy Policy, the terms outlined herein govern the ASPCA's use of the information that you submit to the Shelter Database.  The ASPCA reserves the right to modify this Shelter Database Privacy Policy at any time by posting such change here.  Your continued use of the Shelter Database interface after such change has been made constitutes your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by the terms of the Shelter Database Privacy Policy, as modified.

"Through the Shelter Database, the ASPCA collects information about shelters, including but not limited to: contact information (including names of responsible individuals), organizational demographics (mission type, community type, etc.), scope of services provided, tax status, staffing, and intake information.  The information that you submit will be used in two ways:

"a) If you have signed up through, or indicated that you want to be part of the Find-a-Shelter service: Contact information identifying your shelter will be provided to users of the ASPCA website through the Find-a-Shelter search function.  We will only share the following pieces of information through Find-a-Shelter: organization name, address, telephone number, url, and e-mail address.  Other information will be used as described in (b) below.

"b) For all others: Contact and other information that is submitted to the Shelter Database will be stored and used by the ASPCA for various projects and programs, which may include, but are not limited to: identifying organizations who may be invited to participate in research projects with the ASPCA or who may qualify for accreditation programs, determining eligibility for certain special grant opportunities or for special programs with ASPCA corporate partners, providing contact information to third parties based on identified shelter demographics, contacting you to provide information about the ASPCA and about third parties with whom we are working, or other uses that further the mission or programs of the ASPCA.

"Information submitted to the Shelter Database will not be used to solicit an organization's staff for employment, to solicit contributions from an organization's staff, or to send large quantities of unrequested information or offers. In no case shall your use of the Shelter Database interface entitle the ASPCA to act as your agent, representative, employee, or contractor. 

"At any time, you may request that your information be removed from the Shelter Database by clicking "Edit" or "remove" on the Find-a-Shelter page, or by sending an e-mail to outreach@aspca.org."
