Is puppy food that contains avocado meal or avocado oil recommended for dogs?

Dear Maria,

While avocado is quite toxic to birds, it typically only causes gastrointestinal upset like vomiting or diarrhea in dogs. The amount of avocado that commercial cat and dog foods contain is usually very small and not enough to pose a hazard. Therefore, we see no reason why you shouldn't continue to feed your puppy this diet.
