Gabby
This Happy Tail comes from Erin O’Brien of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
It was a regular day for me when I walked into the Best Buy store where I work, until a co-worker told me to keep an eye out for a kitten who had gotten in the store.
All day I kept an eye out, not expecting to see her, but still hoping she would be found safe. When we still hadn’t located her by the time the store was shutting down, my co-worker Ashley and I begged our manager to let us do one last sweep of the store. I didn't want the kitten to be locked in all night without food and water!
For an hour, we searched every nook and cranny until Ashley heard a faint little meow coming from the DVD racks. We peeked under, and there lay a small, grey kitten, staring wide-eyed at us! I reached out and she bolted across the store, giving us quite the workout for a good 45 minutes before we were finally able to corner her under another sales rack and pull her out.
She didn't bite or hiss, just instantly stared up at our faces and purred as we held her close. The poor thing was covered in dirt, gum and rocks and looked like she had been hit on the face by the pavement outside. We could only assume she had been dumped in the parking lot.
No one had room for her, so I volunteered to take her in and try to find her a home. That night, I gave her a nice warm bath, a good meal and water. She curled up in my lap and purred away like she was the happiest kitten ever!
As I already had a few unusual pets—two female rats, Zoey and Chloe, and a turtle named Horatio—I wasn't looking for anyone else to bring home permanently. But almost two months later and here we are, still together! We named her "Gabby" because she talks—a LOT—but she's my furry little daughter. And she loves my two rats, treating them like they’re kittens, too!
