Job Summary:
The Director of Engagement in the Media & Communications (M&C) Department will be responsible for helping to identify and facilitate opportunities for celebrity, talent and influencer involvement with the ASPCA. The Director will work very closely with M&C, Development and Program leaders to develop a compelling, long-term engagement program for outside talent that leverages earned, owned and paid communications channels. She/he will create both customized and turn-key engagement programs. The Director will manage incoming celebrity opportunities as well as outreach, facilitating, maintaining and engaging relationships to provide support to ASPCA communications, special events and fundraising activities. She/he will be a passionate animal welfare ambassador to the celebrity and talent community.
Job Responsibilities:
- Secure support of celebrities, influencers in coordination with ASPCA’s Media & Communications, Development, and Program Departments
- Brainstorm and create compelling and unique celebrity engagement plans for outreach to celebrities and agencies
- Develop and oversee ongoing celebrity and talent engagement program
- Maintain strong and ongoing relationships with celebrities, talent managers, agents, publicists
- Maintain a strong understanding of animal welfare issues and the ASPCA's work
- Work with ASPCA Media & Communications, Development and Programs teams to develop new Program-based opportunities for engagement
- Coordinate with in-house teams and celebrity reps on PR and messaging around each engagement
- Provide outreach to agencies and managers to cultivate and secure celebrity participation in ASPCA events and campaigns
- Respond to incoming celebrity opportunities to determine best organizational fit for the celebrity
- Manage overall ASPCA celebrity engagement calendar
- Procure celebrity auction items for ASPCA events
- Manage ongoing celebrity online auction site and items
- Other duties and projects that are assigned
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required
Experience:
- Six or more years of experience in celebrity or talent-related public relations and communications
- Experience working in celebrity cultivation
- Familiarity with and relationships at celebrity talent agencies
- Experience working in talent-related event management and non-profit development
Knowledge Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Knowledge of celebrity, entertainment and media / PR businesses
- Strong understanding of media, PR and social media
- Experience with event management
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and social media platforms including Twitter and facebook
Skills Requirements:
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with employees and department staff
- Strong presentation skills
- Must exude passion and communicate strong understanding of animal welfare issues and the ASPCA's work
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Ability to pay attention to detail and capture information accurately
- Effective communication skills, including ability to clearly express thoughts with others and exchange information
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to function in a team-oriented environment
- Willingness to travel, be available to work flexible, sometimes early and late hours, as necessary
